CIS SUPPORT CLUB LAUNCHED

The Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) and the issues surrounding it have caused confusion and distress within the construction industry, which is why CIS Tax Advice, the specialist CIS advisor, has launched a new members’ club designed to provide support, information and advice about CIS and its impact on the industry.

For an annual fee of £250 plus VAT members can benefit from free telephone support about all aspects of their obligations under CIS including employment status, a free preliminary CIS compliance review. Membership benefits also include fee protection insurance on any status enquiry received by members from HMRC.

All members will benefit from insurance which covers the cost of us defending you against HMRC enquiries to include:

  • Income Tax self assessment full and aspect enquiries
  • Corporation Tax self assessment full and aspect enquiries
  • PAYE,NIC or VAT compliance visits by HMRC,or disputes with HMRC
  • Business inspection notices issued by HMRC
  • Appeals to the first tier and upper tax tribunals
  • Repayment claims
  • CIS enquiries
  • IR35 enquiries
  • Any written enquiry from HMRC

The above cover has no excess,no inner limits and carries indemnity of up to £75000.

Members also have access to our own CIS helpline which gives free telephone advice with no limitation on the number of calls made.

The launch of the new CIS members’ club comes hard on the heels of the CIS Tax Advice led petition to Number 10 Downing Street petition protesting about the proposed challenge to construction workers’ employment status. It is not too late to sign the petition by logging on at http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/newcisworkerlaws.

Simon Prior, CIS tax expert from CIS Tax Advice, commented: “CIS and issues around employment status are among the biggest issues to affect the construction industry this century. It is important that those in the industry understand their obligations under the rules and have sufficient processes in place to withstand scrutiny from HMRC, which is why we have created our CIS members’ club to provide the information and backing they need. CIS investigations can result in thousands of pounds’ in costs, employment restructuring, demands for unpaid tax, possible fines and the potential cancellation of projects – our annual fee is a small price to pay for support to avoid such costs.”
